Tangtse village
Tangtse; Trangtse; Dran-tse
Coming from Leh, after crossing the village, take the road leading to Pangong Lake. Rocks are behind the last houses of the village at the junction of the 2 roads (see map). Tangtse is on the Leh-Rudok-Lhasa route via the Chang Pass (5300m) which joins the Indus Valley at Karu. It is possible to reach the Indus Valley by two other routes: one arrives at Igu, the other at Funa (passes at 5600m). From Tangtse it is possible to reach the Shyok by two routes which meet at Agham: one is through the Nebuk pass (5440m) following the Lazun Lungpa and the other is either through Darbuk and no pass or the Halam pass (5150m) both following the Shyok.
The villagers know about the existence of the petroglyphs because the rocks are very close to the village.

Comments on the environment: The rocks (of the size of a house) are now surrounded by houses. The path to the monastery crosses the site.

Comments on the condition: Good condition despite the proximity of the village. Some large Om-type inscriptions intersect the older petroglyphs but no other damage.
